Garage Door Parts—Know What To Look For

The above photo was from a customer who called us out to repair their garage door. When I arrived at the customer’s location, I inspected the door and discovered that the previous company had installed the wrong springs. The springs were too small for the size of the door and were overwound in an attempt to make them work. I also discovered that the force limits were turned all the way up on the garage door opener.

When I informed the customer of this and that the springs would need to be replaced with the correct ones, they informed me that the door had not been working correctly since the last company did the repairs. They had made attempts to get the previous company to come back and fix the problems with the door, but the previous company would not come back. This is when the homeowner scheduled Covenant Garage Doors to come and repair their garage door.

As I started to do the garage door repair work, I then discovered the used and corroded cable drums and cables that were installed by the previous company and informed the homeowner that these would also need replacing.

These are what new cable drums and cables should look like:

When a company informs you that additional parts need replacing on your garage door, it is wise to ask to see the old part and shown where it is worn and why it needs replacing, but the homeowner should request to see the new parts. New parts should meet manufacturer specifications, and have a new shiny appearance and not show any signs of corrosion or rust.

Covenant Garage Doors has made a commitment to only use new manufacture replacement parts, protect them from the environment and install them in pristine condition on your garage door.
